Project "Citizens’ Informed Choice: Media and Elections"

Duration: January 1 December 20, 2007.

Description: The overall objective of the project was to help the public to raise its self-awareness and media representatives to provide them with the balanced information. The specific Objective was to educate regional media representatives how to make adequate analysis about local politics in connection with the general national political context and so to expand their own as well as local citizens’ horizon.

Direct Target Groups: Newspapers such as Tavisufali Sitkva (Poti), Alia, Reziume (Poti), Batumelebi (Batumi), Guria News, Ho Da Ara (Ozurgeti / Lanchxuti / Chokhatauri), Abreshumis Gza (Samtredia), Chemi Kharagauli (Kharagauli), Akhali Gazeti (Kutaisi), P. S. (Kutaisi), Kakhetis Khma (Gurjaani), Spektri (Gurjaani), Khalkhis Gazeti (Gori), Kartlis Khma (Gori), Samkhretis Karibche (Akhaltsikhe); Radio stations such as Atinati (Zugdidi), Harmonia (Poti), Chveni Radio (Telavi), Hereti (Lagodekhi); Media outlets added in the process such as radio stations Mtsvane Talgha (Batumi office), TV company Trialeti (Gori), TV company Borjomi (Borjomi), Journal Premieri (Zugdidi), Newspaper Svaneti (Lentekhi).

Indirect Target Groups: National TV stations (Georgian Public Broadcasting, Imedi, Rustavi 2); Georgian electorate, especially in the regions.

1. Research: Systemic Media Analysis (March – May 2007)

2. Research in Tbilisi simultaneously with the work in regions

3. Training on Election Reporting

4. Visits in regions and journalists’ network

5. Presentation of project results / brochure: part 1, part 2
