About the Center for Social Sciences
 
The Center for Social Sciences (CSS) was founded in November 2003 as a spin-off of Social Sciences Support Program (SSSP, 2000-2003) at Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF).
 
The CSS is a network institution of Higher Education Support Program of Open Society Institute in South Caucasus. Mission of the center is to prepare a highly qualified next generation of social science scholars and practitioners, and thus aid forming civil society in the conditions of internationalization of Georgia.
 
The CSS approaches are to
 
• improve the level of research and teaching in social sciences,
• reform in higher education, and
• build the awareness and values of the open society and human rights in globalized world.
 
Founders of the CSS are:
 
Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University represented by Professor Zurab Davitashvili
Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies represented by Mr. Temur Iakobashvili
International Institute for Education Policy, Planning and Management represented initially by George Sharvashidze, at present by George Machabeli
• Marine Chitashvili, Professor of TSU, Director of CSS
• George Khelashvili, TSU, Academic Director of CSS in 2003-2006
